Riders fall to Pocola, Lady Riders take down Wilburton in opening round of Regional Tournament

Feb. 22—WILBURTON — The Hulbert Lady Riders won their first game in the Regional Tournament, while the Riders were dropped in their opening game.

The Lady Riders took down Wilburton 62-34 to end their season. The Lady Riders got off to a quick start picking up a 17-11 first-quarter lead. HHS kept building their lead with a 13-point second quarter to go into halftime up 30-23.

Coming out of halftime, the Lady Riders locked down on defense, allowing just 11 points in the second half. The Lady Riders outscored WHS 16-6 in the third quarter. After beating WHS in the fourth quarter 16-5, the Lady Riders held on for the win.

The Lady Riders will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23.

The Riders ran into a tough challenge in Pocola when they lost 78-47. HHS started the game looking to keep up with the Indians. Going into halftime the Riders were down by 36-31.

Going into the game HHS Head Coach Jordan Hill knew the Indians were going to be a tough challenge with their size and speed. Coming out of halftime, the Riders struggled and quickly started trailing the Indians 62-39. HHS couldn't come back after that and were sent to the consolation bracket. HHS will be back in action at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23
