Ride the Gary Sanchez hot streak while it's going

Yankees' catcher Gary Sanchez looks to have figured things out at the plate, but should managers prepare for a sudden crash?

Video Transcript

COLIN HENDERSON: Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is on a heater right now. After going two or three with two doubles on Sunday against the A's, knocking in the only two runs the Yankees would score in a 2-1 victory. Sanchez improved his season line to 237, 340 for 80 with 11 homers, 25 RBIs, and 24 runs scored entering Monday.

Those season stats don't tell the entire story. In Sanchez's last 20 games dating back to May 27th, El Gary has been hitting a sparkling 344, 408, 719 with six homers and 14 RBIs. While many fantasy managers have turned sour on Sanchez after drafting him high over the last few seasons expecting him to be the guy we saw tear the league up back in 2016 and 17, his numbers continue to be near the top of the catching ranks.

So far on the year, he is top five in the majors in home runs amongst all catchers, sixth in walks, 10th in doubles, and 11th and runs batted in. Sanchez's metrics back this production up as he remains in the top 20% of the league in average exit velocity, expected slugging, walk percentage, and barrel percentage. While he's not likely to be a 280 plus hitter over the course of a full season like he teased at the start of his career, Sanchez continues to be one of the best sources of power at the position when he's locked in. One of the most added players in fantasy over the past week, go out and ride Sanchez while he is hot. Just be prepared with a backup plan for when the kraken cools down.
