Ricky Gervais will never bring back The Office as 'David Brent over 60 is too sad'
Ricky Gervais has revealed there is no chance of The Office returning as "David Brent at 60 is too sad".
The award-winning mockumentary-style sitcom ran for two series and a Christmas special between 2001 and 2003, arguably changing the face of comedy along the way.
And though the 58-year-old reprised his famous role for a movie, David Brent: Life on the Road, it looks as though we’ve seen the last of the cringe-inducing manager and salesman.

Speaking to The Sun's TV Mag, He said: “I don’t think I’ll ever bring back the old favourites. People think they want more, but they don’t. They just want the feeling they had when they saw it for the first time. David Brent at 60 is too sad.”
Gervais, along with writing and directing partner Stephen Merchant, had further TV hits with Extras and Life’s Too Short, and also enjoyed a string of successful movies such as Cemetery Junction and The Invention of Lying.
However, the pair eventually went their separate ways, both picking up a flurry of solo projects.
One of which for Gervais is his Netflix comedy-drama After Life, which is about a small town journalist grieving following the death of his wife from cancer.
The show was well received and a second series will start streaming later this month.
Despite the new series not even starting, the star has said said he is open to a third series.
He said: “For the first time ever, I’ve wanted to do a third season of something.
"It’s the richest world I’ve created, it’s not just a comedy about being in an office or an extra. So I’ve started thinking about it, but we have to see how season two goes down.”

However, he added it have to very much be “a wanted encore from Netflix and the public” for him to break his tried and tested ‘two series and a Christmas special’ formula which has proven successful in the past.
After Life season two will begin streaming on Netflix on 24 April.
