Richard E. Grant has said he 'stood and cheered', ‘cried’ and 'fist pumped the air' while watching an early screening of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The Withnail and I star, who snared a role in this final chapter in the current series, took to Twitter to let fans know what they're in for.
Not far off tears, he explains that 'what [the movie] achieves, weaves & resolves, is a total emotional meltdown & resurrection of the Spirit', while almost having an emotional meltdown himself.
“Bravo to @jjabrams & his astonishing cast & creative crew,” he adds.
Here it is, so strap in for some feels.
Just seen the 1st cast screening of @starwars #THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. What it achieves, weaves & resolves, is a total emotional meltdown & resurrection of the Spirit. Not much is known about Grant's role in the movie – his first appearance in the Star Wars universe – other than he plays Allegiant General Pryde, a high-ranking general in the First Order.
This would likely set him either in cahoots with – or perhaps in conflict with – Domhnall Gleeson's embattled General Hux.
Grant was joined in praising the film by his co-star Joonas Suotamo who plays Chewbacca in the film, who hailed the film as “a masterpiece”.
Saw The Rise of Skywalker last night with the cast. It was everything I had hoped for and more! Congratulations to all who were a part of making this film, especially my talented cast mates who have outdone themselves a thousand fold. 🚀🚀🚀✨💥💫💫💥— Joonas Suotamo (@JoonasSuotamo) December 4, 2019
And thank you @jjabrams for allowing us to see it and allowing me to bawl and cheer in private before stepping in front of the world. Sir, we have a masterpiece!— Joonas Suotamo (@JoonasSuotamo) December 4, 2019
It appears to be the first reaction of any kind for the movie, which is yet to be screened to critics.
Starring Grant alongside Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong'o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid and Billy Dee Williams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker lands in the UK on 19 December.
