Revs-Union highlights: Buksa, Buchanan lead stunning upset originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The odds could not have been more stacked against the New England Revolution on Tuesday night. And they couldn't have been less concerned.

The No. 8 seed Revs scored two goals in the first 30 minutes en route to a 2-0 upset of the No. 1 overall seed Philadelphia Union in the first round of the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

New England lost all four of its regular season matches against the Union, who went undefeated at Subaru Field to earn the Supporters' Shield as MLS' top team.

But there was forward Adam Buksa opening the scoring for the Revs in the 26th minute with a well-placed header off a perfect Carles Gil feed.

Four minutes later, Tajon Buchanan doubled New England's lead off another assist from Gil, then celebrated with an awesome backflip.

Gil nearly added a goal of his own early in the second half but was denied by the crossbar.

The Revs needed no further insurance, though, as goalkeeper Matt Turner only had to make two saves behind a strong New England defense.

The Revs' bracket-busting win advanced them to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they'll visit No. 4 seed Orlando City SC on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 3 p.m. ET.
