Barty suffers shock second-round loss in Toronto

World number one Ash Barty's preparations for the U.S. Open got off to a rocky start as the Australian suffered a shock 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4 loss to American Sofia Kenin in the second round of the Rogers Cup on Tuesday. French Open champion Barty, playing for the first time since falling in the last 16 at Wimbledon, was far from her best and Kenin took full advantage, recording her first victory in four meetings with the Australian.

NFL notebook: Raiders' Brown reportedly has frostbite

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown might have come up with a new reason to miss training camp -- frostbite. The issues that are keeping the star wideout from the practice field were thought to be blisters, with Brown posting a photo on social media on Monday showing skin peeling from his feet. But Chris Simms of PFT Live said he heard Tuesday from someone with knowledge of the situation that the photo shows burned feet as a result of entering a cryotherapy machine without the proper footwear.

Schalke boss Toennies temporarily steps down over controversial comments

Schalke 04 president Clemens Toennies has stepped down as club boss for a period of three months following a board hearing into controversial comments he made last week triggering a racism row. Toennies, a billionaire owner of a meat processing company, had told a conference last week that instead of increasing taxes to protect the environment there should be more power stations built in Africa.

MLB roundup: Yankees hit HR mark, down O's

Mike Ford hit a tiebreaking homer in the top of the eighth, and Mike Tauchman added a two-run shot later in the inning as the New York Yankees set a major league mark for road home runs en route to a 9-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night. Ford had just one career homer before this contest, and Tauchman finished with two on the night. Tauchman's first, a solo shot in the sixth inning, was the Yankees' 30th this season at Camden Yards. That set a major league mark for the most home runs by a visiting team at one ballpark in a season. The Yankees, winners of six in a row, made it 32 on the two eighth-inning homers.

Having gained the upper hand in his battle with cancer, Nathan Adrian was at the Pan Am Games on Tuesday focused on a more familiar fight securing a spot on the United States 2020 Olympic swim team. Ryder Cup winner Olesen charged with sexual assault on flight

Danish golfer Thorbjorn Olesen has been charged with sexual assault, being drunk on an aircraft and common assault and will appear in court on Aug. 21, Metropolitan Police have said. The 29-year-old was arrested at London's Heathrow Airport on July 29 and subsequently released under investigation after returning from a World Golf Championships event in Memphis.
