Reports: Packers trade Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to Redskins

The Green Bay Packers agreed to trade Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins shortly before the NFL trade deadline Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

The Packers received a fourth-round pick in the 2019 draft, according to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.

The veteran safety sent out a goodbye to the cheeseheads on his Twitter account.

The Packers also dealt running back Ty Montgomery on Tuesday for a seventh-round pick in 2020.

Redskins keep up with NFC East moves

The Redskins (5-2) kept up with the Philadelphia Eagles (4-4) and Dallas Cowboys (3-4) before the deadline in an attempt to hold their lead on the always tough NFC East.

(The one-win New York Giants, meanwhile, had a different kind of deadline day.)

Washington’s defense ranks top five in average points allowed (19.1) and average yards allowed (322.4). It’s the second-best defense statistically against the run.

Clinton-Dix will join safeties D.J. Swearinger and Montae Nicholson.

Clinton-Dix played every game as if it was last

Clinton-Dix was reported by insiders to be on the trading block in the final year of his contract and spoke to the Wisconsin State Journal about it Monday. The 2014 first-round draft pick didn’t say much about Tuesday’s deadline, but did tell the paper that he didn’t expect to be with the Packers in 2019.

“Right now, I’m playing each and every game like it’s my last. I don’t think I’m going to be here next year,” Clinton-Dix said days after the Packers’ Week 5 loss at Detroit on Oct. 7. “That’s how I look at it. I just [have to] be honest with myself. You’ve got to play it game-by-game. Whether we’re losing by 60 points, you’ve got to go out there and perform. This is my biggest interview of my career. So I’ve got to perform, regardless of what the record says.”

Clinton-Dix performing well in contract season

Clinton-Dix, 25, has started since his rookie season and will become a free agent when the year is done. He earned a berth in the 2016 Pro Bowl after a five-interception season.

As the Packers went, so did Clinton-Dix and he had a down year in 2017 despite playing all but eight defensive snaps. He has bounced back so far this season with three interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble. Yahoo Sports’ Terez Paylor included him as one of the 10 having “killer contract seasons.”

He’s also a huge asset to his community:
