Linebacker Manti Te'o is returning to the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, according to multiple reports.
The move is expected to be made official on Wednesday.
Te'o, 28, would be rejoining the Saints, for whom he played in 2017 and part of 2018, though he was a healthy scratch for the final 11 games. The Saints elected not to re-sign him in the offseason.
The Saints are thin at linebacker, with two players at the position (Alex Anzalone, Kaden Elliss) already on injured reserve and Kiko Alonso and A.J. Klein both leaving last week's game against the Atlanta Falcons early due to injuries.
Te'o, who finished runner-up for the 2012 Heisman, was a second-round draft pick by the San Diego Chargers in 2013.
In 59 career games (47 starts), Te'o has 313 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 13 passes defensed. In 21 games with the Saints, Te'o had 80 tackles, seven for loss.
