Reports: Ex-New London great Jordan Reed retiring from NFL
Apr. 20—Jordan Reed, the ex-New London High School great who went on to become one of the NFL's best tight ends, is retiring, according to multiple reports.
Reed, a third-round pick by the Washington Football Team in 2013 out of Florida, played his final season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020. He missed the entire 2019 season after suffering a concussion during the preseason.
His seven-year career was plagued by a series of injuries, including multiple concussions, and he never played a complete 16-game schedule with either Washington or San Francisco.
He caught 11 touchdown passes in 2015 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2016.
The 6-foot-2 Reed, who played quarterback at New London before accepting a scholarship offer from Florida and being converted to tight end, caught 26 passes for 231 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games with the 49ers last season.
He finished with 329 catches for 3,371 yards and 24 touchdowns in 65 games during his six seasons with Washington. He ranks No. 10 all-time in career receptions with Washington and 13th in yards.
