Report: LaVine to miss several games in COVID-19 protocols originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff picture is tightening as the regular season comes to a close, and one of the Wizards' chief competitors for a spot in the play-in tournament was dealt some bad news Thursday.

Bulls All-Star Zach LaVine will reportedly miss several games after entering the NBA's health and safety protocols, leaving Chicago without its best player in a crucial stretch of their season.

LaVine has had a career year this season for the Bulls, averaging 27.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 50% on field goals and over 41% from three.

In order to make a substantial playoff push, the Bulls traded significant assets to the Magic for Nikola Vucevic, who's also having a career year this season. The results haven't been there though, with the Bulls dropping eight of 11 games since the trade deadline.

Now, they'll have to keep themselves afloat without their best player while the Wizards and Raptors close in on them in the standings.

The Wizards just finished a six-game road trip at 4-2 and are now one game behind Chicago for the final play-in spot. The Raptors are also one game back of the Bulls with less than 20 games to play.
