Report: Washington is open to playing QB Dwayne Haskins again this year
With a team that has been synonymous with drama over the past decade or so, the Washington Football Team has seemingly been dealing with an exorbitant amount of drama this year especially, with a new storyline popping up a little over a week ago with the surprise benching of QB Dwayne Haskins.
While Haskins was inactive last week against the Los Angeles Rams, and he projects to be the same again this week against the New York Giants, the team seems unwilling to try and trade him away, or at least very unwilling to talk about it. When pressed on the question on Wednesday, head coach Ron Rivera simply said that he wouldn’t be discussing that matter.
However, a new report from The Washington Post shows that the team may be unwilling to trade Haskins because there might be a road back to him playing in Washington again later this year.
“According to two people with knowledge of the situation, Rivera is not interested in trading Haskins at this point and hopes to continue developing the quarterback with the possibility of him returning to play later this year or next,” Sam Fortier wrote.
We questioned last week whether this was a possibility or not, with the QB move to Kyle Allen seemingly spurred on more by a desire to win now than anything else. But what happens if Allen is unable to put this team in a position to win now? What if Washington misses the boat on the playoff push that they are trying so hard for, and they are left with developmental games to play late in the season? Could it be Dwayne Haskins that we see once again under center to get more repetitions and experience?
According to this report, that is definitely in the cards, but if you’ve followed Washington at all over the month, year, decade, you know it’s dangerous to assume anything. Who knows what will happen this time around.
