Report: Washington Football Team will add Mayhew to front office originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Washington Football Team will add San Francisco personnel executive Martin Mayhew to its rebuilt front office, according to a new report from NFL Network.

It's been widely reported that Washington will name Marty Hurney its new general manager, and that news could happen at any time. The addition of Mayhew gives Washington two personnel executives with a combined 60+ years in the NFL.

Washington coach Ron Rivera said he wanted to gain more experience in the front office, and with these moves, he's got it.

While Hurney and Rivera worked together in Carolina, Mayhew served as Lions GM from 2008 to 2015. His record as GM in Detroit is ugly, going 47-81 with two playoff losses. It is, however, important to point out that the Lions have been awful seemingly forever and prior to Mayhew's arrival, the team had not made the playoffs or even had a winning record in more than a decade.

Mayhew will also be a familiar name for Washington fans for four seasons and was a starting defensive back on the 1991 Super Bowl team.
