Report: Saints fear ‘mallet finger’ injury for Taysom Hill, may require surgery

Here are some details on the injury Taysom Hill sustained to the middle finger of his throwing hand in Thursday night’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that initial tests have diagnosed Hill with a “Mallet Finger” injury that could require surgery, though he couched that by suggesting a procedure could come “at some point.” Hill is undergoing more tests before reaching a decision.

Hill addressed his injury immediately after the game, saying: “It’s not broken. I don’t know exactly what it is. We’ll assess it tomorrow.”

The torn tendon issue may sound familiar because it’s one of the several finger injuries that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson sustained earlier this season. Wilson was expected to miss six to eight weeks while recovering but rushed back after just three weeks, and he’s played very poorly since then. It’s too soon to say whether Hill will also miss time or try to keep fighting through this injury, but it obviously hampered him against Dallas.
