It's been an uncomfortably quiet offseason thus far for the Red Sox, as their search continues for a big bat.

Free agent slugger J.D. Martinez has been the name floated around for a while now, but the Red Sox seem to have another plan in mind. According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, Boston is showing "continued trade interest" in Orioles star infielder Manny Machado.

While this might seem like an odd fit considering Machado's history with the Red Sox, it certainly would give Boston a much-needed boost in the middle of the lineup.

The 25-year-old slugger and two-time Gold Glover reportedly wants to play shortstop in 2018, meaning current Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts likely would be on the way out if a deal were to be made.

Machado, who hit .259 with 33 home runs and 95 runs batted in a season ago, is entering the final year of his contract.
