Report: Ravens bench C Matt Skura ahead of Week 11 game vs. Titans originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Baltimore has reportedly made the decision to bench center Matt Skura ahead of their Week 11 matchup with Tennessee following a woeful Week 10 performance in stormy New England last Sunday night.

Skura made three costly errors in what was a windy and rainy night at Gilette Stadium in Foxborough. ESPN's Jamison Hensely was first with the news.

Over the past week, Skura had to speak out against fans who attacked his family online after the Ravens' 23-17 loss to the Patriots. Of the few snaps that went awry for Skura, a 4th-and-1 attempt in a direct snap to Mark Ingram late in the contest was the most notable mistake. The previous week, Skura also struggled under center against Indianapolis, though a hand injury hampered him in that one.

Against the Patriots, though, head coach John Harbaugh said the hand injury wasn't the issue.

“The snaps are concerning,” Harbaugh said. “Those are very costly in the game. Tough deal, it’s a hard situation. Matt knows he’s got to get those snaps back there. Nobody feels worse about it than he does.”

Lamar Jackson, who came to Skura and his family's defense, will likely receive snaps from second-year center Patrick Mekari. At 6-foot-4, 308 pounds, Mekari has stepped into an increased role since offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley was ruled out for the season after getting injured against the Steelers.

Undrafted out of the University of California, Mekari made the 53-man roster last season and even filled in for an injured Skura at times during the 2019 campaign. Now, he'll have to show security and poise against a hungry Titans defense in Week 11 action.
