Report: Rasheed Wallace joins Penny Hardaway's Memphis coaching staff originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Former Blazer Rasheed Wallace is reportedly joining Penny Hardaway’s coaching staff on the men’s basketball team at the University of Memphis as an assistant.

The job comes just two months after Wallace accepted a head coaching gig at the Good Better high school in North Carolina.

Coaching in a higher rank might’ve been too tempting for Wallace to turn down. He gets to be at a rising program with a former NBA peer and his former Pistons head coach, Larry Brown.

Throughout the offseason, it seemed as if Wallace’s tenure at Good Better might be temporary once his name gained little traction in joining former teammate Chauncey Billups’ coaching staff with the Blazers.

Wallace’s coaching experience includes a year with the Pistons during the 2013-14 season following his retirement and the last two seasons at Jordan high school in North Carolina.

Memphis’ coaching staff is going through an overhaul and has added some big names to their staff. With Hardaway entering year four, he’s yet to lead his program to the NCAA Tournament. Although, things could be on the rise with a stacked incoming class with Jalen Duren and possibly Emoni Bates.
