The Oakland Raiders’ hopes of staying in the playoff race just got harder. The team was hit with a significant blow Sunday, as rookie running back Josh Jacobs was ruled inactive for the team’s game against the Tennessee Titans due to a shoulder injury.

Jacobs, 21, has been dealing with a shoulder issue the past few weeks, though fans were initially unsure of the extent of Jacobs’ injury. In early December, Jacobs revealed he had been playing with a fractured shoulder since Week 7.

Up until Week 14, Jacobs hasn’t missed a game due to the injury. He was considered a game-time decision heading into the Titans game.

Jacobs has delivered for the Raiders after the team selected him in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. Through 12 games, Jacobs has rushed for 1,061 yards and seven touchdowns.

At 6-6, the Raiders are in the thick of the playoff hunt in the AFC. A win over the Titans, who sit at 7-5, would be huge for the Raiders’ chances of reaching the postseason.

If Oakland is going to pull that off, they’ll have to do it without one of their best offensive weapons. And even then, it’s unclear whether Jacobs will need to miss more time due to the injury.
