Report: Patriots sign CB Michael Jackson to practice squad

The New England Patriots are signing cornerback Michael Jackson to the practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

New England traded for Jackson this offseason in a deal that sent TK to the Detroit Lions. He had a solid training camp, but couldn’t earn a spot on the 53-man roster, particularly after suffering a hamstring injury. But the Patriots signed him back to their practice squad on Monday, where he’ll join a deep group of cornerbacks which includes Stephon Gilmore, J.C. Jackson, Jason McCourty, Jonathan Jones and Joejuan Williams. It would’ve been a tough group for any cornerback to crack into.

If New England’s cornerbacks suffer an injury, Jackson will likely be first in line for a promotion.
