Report: Panthers still exploring move for Browns QB Baker Mayfield

Last week, Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said he and general manager Scott Fitterer would look into every position of need at the end of training camp—including, of course, the quarterback position. Well, it’s the end training camp and, apparently, they’re still looking.

According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, the Panthers are still exploring a move for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. We know, yet another monotonous update on Baker that isn’t really much of an update, right?

Actually, this latest nugget is a bit different . . . kinda. Anderson also notes that the team is not only contemplating over Baker Mayfield the player, but also over Baker Mayfield the person.

The former No. 1 overall pick, along with failing to live up to the expectations of that hefty investment from 2018, isn’t exactly the most admired leader in football. Back in May, ESPN’s Jake Trotter detailed how Mayfield lost some of the Cleveland locker room following the messy departure of star wideout Odell Beckham Jr.

Evaluating personalities is, obviously, a universal practice across the league when adding any potential players. But this is a particularly pertinent probe for the Panthers considering their young roster and the make-or-break nature of 2022 for Rhule and company.
