Report: Multiple NBA teams expect LaMelo Ball to be No. 1 pick originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The top of the NBA Draft board is beginning to take shape with the draft just over a week away.

Multiple NBA front offices are operating "under the assumption" that guard LaMelo Ball will be the No. 1 selection next Wednesday, according to ESPN's NBA Draft insider Jonathan Givony.

Memphis center James Wiseman and Georgia guard Anthony Edwards are expected to round out the top three, per Givony.

"Unless a surprise trade completely disrupts the top of the draft, LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman are likely to make up the top three in some order, according to conversations with multiple team executives, scouts and agents," Givony wrote.

The Minnesota Timberwolves own the top pick in next week's draft, but it's no guarantee that they use that selection to take Ball.

Multiple executives told Givony that the Chicago Bulls (No. 4 pick), Detroit Pistons (7th), and Oklahoma City (25th, plus multiple future firsts) all could be willing to make a move for the No. 1 pick.

Both Minnesota and the Golden State Warriors, who hold the second pick in the draft, have explored the possibility of trading out of their current draft slots to acquire an established star.

LaMelo Ball, the younger brother of Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball, has not worked out for any teams and doesn't have any plans to do so ahead of the draft, according to the report.

With the Wizards currently slated to pick ninth, they'd likely have to trade up in order to take Ball. With John Wall and Bradley Beal under contract, Ball would provide much-needed depth for Washington's backcourt.
