Report: Kyler Murray to play, hurting Bears' playoff hopes originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Bad news for Bears fans who hope the team can slide into the playoffs, regardless of the result of Week 17’s matchup against the Packers. Omar Ruiz reports that Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray said he’s going to play this Sunday, despite injuring his leg last Sunday.

If the Bears lose this Sunday, they’ll need the Rams to beat the Cardinals in order to qualify for the postseason. Even a hobbled Murray gives Arizona a better chance to make it past Los Angeles’ fearsome defense than their backup Chris Streveler would. Streveler has yet to throw a pass in the NFL, but he has handed the ball off once.

Meanwhile, Rams QB Jared Goff has already been ruled out for Week 17 as he underwent surgery on a broken thumb on Monday.

Of course, all of this will be moot if the Bears win on Sunday. A victory against the Packers would punch their ticket to the postseason.

But we all know when the Bears square off against Aaron Rodgers, it’s always good to have a backup plan.
