On Thursday, the New York Knicks reportedly agreed to acquire Cam Reddish from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Kevin Knox and a protected 2022 first-round pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Reddish, in his third year, saw a smaller role with the Hawks this season with a crowded depth chart at the wing position. The Hawks worked to move Reddish as a result to a team that could offer him a larger role and contract extension this summer.

The Knicks also acquired Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-round pick.

Prior to settling on Kevin Knox, the Hawks had initially targeted rookie Quentin Grimes, the 25th pick. However, some within the Knicks’ front office were opposed to moving Grimes and the team ultimately decided to trade Knox instead, according to Ian Begley of SNY.

With the trade, Reddish will now have the opportunity to see a larger role and help the Knicks stay in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. He will reunite with former Duke teammate R.J. Barrett as the two were close friends during their time in college.

The Knicks certainly believe Grimes has a bright future after opting against trading him. He had mostly played sparingly with the Knicks but recently saw a larger role due to multiple injuries and players entering the health and safety protocol.

Grimes produced a career-high 27 points on Dec. 12 in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks but was placed into the protocol himself the following day. Since returning on Christmas Day, Grimes is averaging 6.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 21.1 minutes across 10 appearances.
