Report: Jim Harbaugh to interview for Denver Broncos job
Here we go again, apparently.
While Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh continues to say he fully intends to be coaching the Michigan Wolverines in 2023, he has constantly left himself an out, insisting “no one knows the future.” Apparently, he’s covering all bases.
Harbaugh and Michigan are working on an extension. In the meantime, he’s allowing himself to be courted by NFL programs. According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Harbaugh is set for a virtual interview with the Denver Broncos, who are looking to replace Nathaniel Hackett.
The Denver Broncos plan to interview University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh for their head coaching job early this week, per sources.
Harbaugh, 59, has been weighing his NFL options in recent weeks and is set to interview virtually with Denver in the coming days, along with several other candidates.
Of course, there are some mitigating circumstances for Harbaugh this time around. The NCAA is investigating the program, and Harbaugh is the subject of an alleged Level I violation. As noted, he could just be covering his bases in case things go awry, and Michigan doesn’t give him the extension he’s looking for.
But, like last year, this causes uncertainty within the program — for those players on the fence about their own futures, as well as for prospective recruits. It would be in Michigan’s best interest to finalize Harbaugh’s status, ASAP, regardless of what the NCAA is alleging.
