Report: Jets RB McGuire to have surgery, miss 3-6 weeks

New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire will miss three to six weeks after suffering a fractured foot in Friday's first training camp practice, according to ESPN.

McGuire, a second-year pro, is expected to have surgery this week.

"I'm sure it's tough for him going into his second year," Jets coach Todd Bowles said Saturday of McGuire. "Anytime somebody gets hurt, it's a tough break, but he's a hard worker and we expect him to be back as soon as he's ready."

McGuire rushed for 315 yards and one touchdown last season. He was a sixth-round pick out of Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Jets were looking for a replacement Saturday as they worked out veteran free agents Alfred Morris and Orleans Darkwa. Morris is a former two-time Pro Bowler for the Washington Redskins, while Darkwa rushed for 751 yards and five touchdowns for the New York Giants last season.

McGuire was expected to compete for a bigger role this season behind leading backs Bilal Powell and Isaiah Crowell. Former Seattle Seahawks back Thomas Rawls also is in the mix.
