As part of a police investigation into the discovery of a dead body found at the New Jersey home of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins, authorities reportedly have named Jenkins' brother a "person of interest" in the case and want to speak to him further. According to a TMZ report Wednesday, law enforcement officials wish to speak to William Jenkins about the death of 25-year-old Roosevelt Rene, a Jenkins family friend who had reportedly been living at the house of late. The police have not revealed a cause of death. "William Jenkins is a person of interest in relation to dead body case at his brother's house," Ontario County NY District Attorney James Ritts told TMZ. "Bergen County wants to talk to him." TMZ also noted that while William Jenkins is a person of interest, he is not a suspect. "Officials just want to know what he knows," TMZ said of William Jenkins. TMZ also cited jail records in reporting that William Jenkins, 34, was arrested on an unrelated parole warrant in Ontario County in Canandaigua, N.Y., in the early hours of June 26 -- approximately nine hours before Rene's dead body was found. Ritts told TMZ that the older Jenkins will be transported to Bergen County, an approximate distance of 300 miles, via an extradition process in hopes of finding out if he knows anything more about Rene's death. According to multiple reports, police are treating the investigation as a homicide. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports police are investigating "a possible strangulation/suffocation as the cause of death," citing law enforcement sources. Multiple reports say Janoris Jenkins is not in New Jersey and has been staying in Florida. According to ESPN's Dianna Russini, Janoris Jenkins has been in Florida since the Giants broke from their offseason practices, which ended June 14. That report adds that Jenkins had family staying in the New Jersey home and he had plans to return to New Jersey on Tuesday "to deal with this situation" - though he now may stay in Florida. TMZ reports the body was found in the basement by a person who was working on the house. Authorities received a 911 call at 10:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler said. The body was removed from the property just before 8 p.m. Jenkins, 29, is entering his third year with the Giants. The Pahokee, Fla., native played for Florida in college before finishing his career at North Alabama. A Giants spokesperson confirmed the team is "aware of and monitoring the situation." --Field Level Media
