Report: Jason Witten mulling offer from second network
Jason Witten will reportedly announce in the next couple of days where he’ll be for the 2018 season: on the field or in the broadcast booth.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday night that a second network has made a pitch to Witten, a last-minute proposal a Mortensen source deemed “interesting.”

ESPN is also pursuing Witten to join its Monday Night Football team, ostensibly replacing Jon Gruden, who left the analyst job earlier this year to return to the Oakland Raiders as head coach.
If Witten keeps playing, it will be for love, not money: Dallas Morning News reporter David Moore writes that ESPN’s multi-year offer to Witten is in the range of $4-4.5 million a year; were he to remain with the Cowboys, Witten’s base salary would be $1.05 million plus a $750,000 roster bonus.
But the Dallas Cowboys don’t want Witten to retire: Mortensen wrote coach Jason Garrett is actively trying to persuade Witten to play another season, which would be his 16th in the NFL.
On Friday, while meeting with media, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said he’d spoken with Witten several times during the week, and said Witten needed time to think about his future, “at least through the weekend,” Jones said.
A Mortensen source said an announcement on Witten’s future may come Wednesday.
