James Harden ruled out against Wizards with thigh contusion originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Nets guard James Harden was ruled out of Sunday's game against Washigton due to a left thigh contusion, the team announced Sunday afternoon.

In what could have been a showdown between the former Oklahoma City trio of Harden and Brooklyn teammate Kevin Durant against Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook, an ailing Harden will recover and watch from the sidelines.

Brooklyn is coming off a team record-setting offensive display in their last win against the Thunder, winning 147-125 on Friday night. Victors of eight of their last 10 games, the new-look Nets now sit second in the Eastern Conference standings behind Philadelphia.

The Wizards are trending in the other direction, losing their last four games since returning to play after an outbreak within the team. Most recently, Washington fell short against the Hawks, 116-100, on Friday night.

Still, head coach Scott Brooks' team won their second game of the season against the Nets before the Harden trade back on Jan. 3 thanks to a combined 51 combined points from Westbrook and Bradley Beal. Without the scoring prowess of Harden on Sunday night, Washington will be looking to end their losing streak as they get more reinforcements returning from Covid protocols last time out.
