Report: Jags in the process of scheduling an interview with Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy

The Jacksonville Jaguars have another hot coaching candidate on their radar. This time it’s Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who is arguably the most desired choice amongst fans.

Bieniemy, 51, has been with the Chiefs organization for eight seasons now. With them winning the most recent Super Bowl (LIV) and having arguably the most dangerous offense in football, Bieniemy is a candidate who most believes will undoubtedly come away with a head coaching job in 2021.

Bieniemy is a part of a staff that has helped the Chiefs to become a world-class organization when it comes to the football side. Under him, Andy Reid, and the rest of the offensive staff, the Chiefs ended the regular season first in passing (312.8 YPG) and total offense (415.8 YPG).

With owner Shad Khan stressing the importance of finally getting a franchise quarterback, Bieniemy should be an appealing candidate. The reason for that is his work with Patrick Mahomes, who was the league’s most valuable player in 2018 and Super Bowl MVP last season.

As it stands, the competition for Bieniemy will be strong as the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions have interviewed him, while the Los Angeles Chargers, and New York Jets have put in requests to talk with him. However, even with four other teams interested, most would agree that the Jags should be the most appealing. As we’ve said before, having the No. 1 overall pick (which could be Trevor Lawrence), 10 other draft picks, a boatload of projected cap, and patient ownership will give candidates an offer that is hard to pass up.
