Report: Hawks permit Budenholzer to meet with Suns

The Atlanta Hawks have given head coach Mike Budenholzer permission to speak with the Phoenix Suns about their opening for the same position, according to an ESPN report.

Per the report, Budenholzer plans to meet with the Suns early next week. The 48-year-old is from Holbrook, Ariz., a small town about three hours northwest of Phoenix.

Budenholzer has spent the last five years with the Hawks, going 213-197 while winning Coach of the Year in 2014-15 and making four trips to the playoffs. He also served as the team's president of basketball operations until 2017, and he remains under contract with the Hawks for $14 million over the next two seasons.

Per reports, interim head coach Jay Triano, who took over after Earl Watson was fired just three games into the 2017-18 campaign, remains a candidate for the Suns' full-time job.

The team also reportedly reached out to former player and current Grand Canyon University coach Dan Majerle, but he is not interested in the position.
