Report: Georgia GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker pressed woman to have second abortion

The woman who said Herschel Walker paid for her 2009 abortion claims the former NFL player and Georgia GOP Senate nominee urged her to terminate another pregnancy two years later, according to the New York Times.

The couple ended their relationship after she refused to have the second abortion. She now raises their 10-year-old son with little involvement by Walker through beyond court-ordered child support and occasional gifts, the newspaper reported.

The Daily Beast first reported Monday that Walker paid for an abortion over a decade ago, based on the account of a woman who requested anonymity but who shared a get-well card from Walker with a signed personal check and a receipt from an abortion clinic.

Walker immediately denied the report, calling it a "flat-out lie" in a statement on Twitter 17-minutes after the story was released. The Georgia nominee has continued to deny the story all week and said he plans to file a lawsuit against The Daily Beast. However, no lawsuit has emerge so far.

After Walker's vehemently denial of the report, the Daily Beast reported Wednesday that the anonymous woman is also the mother of one of Walker's children. Walker has four known children, including Christian Walker, who turned against his father in a string of tweets Monday.

The revelation drew accusations of hypocrisy from Walker's opponents given his strong opposition to abortion access and support of a national ban on abortion after 15 weeks without exceptions for rape or incest.

The GOP continued to voice support for Walker with many, including former President Donald Trump, declaring the controversy a "distraction" by Democrats and the media.

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. voiced support for Walker in a statement Tuesday.

"When the Democrats are losing, as they are right now, they lie and cheat and smear their opponents. That’s what’s happening right now," the statement said. "They know they are on the verge of losing the Senate, and they know that Herschel Walker is winning, so they have cranked up the smear machine."

The woman told the New York Times that she was frustrated watching Republicans rally around Walker while continuing to dismiss her experience and how Walker treated her.

"As a father, he’s done nothing. He does exactly what the courts say, and that’s it,” she told the Times. “He has to be held responsible, just like the rest of us. And if you’re going to run for office, you need to own your life.”
