Report: Ex-Panthers RB Stewart to visit Giants next

Recently released ex-Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart will visit the New York Giants on Tuesday, according to an NFL Network report.

Stewart, who turns 31 later this month, visited the Seattle Seahawks last Thursday and the Detroit Lions on Monday.

He was released by the Panthers, who drafted him 13th overall in 2008, two weeks ago after 10 seasons with the club. New Giants offensive coordinator Mike Shula was on Carolina's staff for seven of those 10 seasons, including the last five as offensive coordinator.

Stewart ran for 680 yards on a career-low 3.4 yards per attempt in 2017, scoring six touchdowns on the ground. He holds the Panthers' franchise records for career rushing yards (7,318) and carries (1,699).

Giants backs Orleans Darkwa and Shane Vereen are both set to be unrestricted free agents when the league year officially opens on Wednesday.
