Report: The Dolphins tried to trade for D’Andre Swift during the 2023 NFL draft

The Detroit Lions dealt running back D’Andre Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles during draft weekend. After selecting Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round, Swift was clearly on the out after three up-and-down seasons.

At the time, many wondered if the Eagles, the reigning NFC champions, were the only trade suitor for Swift. Based on a report from ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, the Miami Dolphins also called Lions GM Brad Holmes about potentially trading for Swift.

A little nugget in a report about the Dolphins’ potential interest in Minnesota RB Dalvin Cook notes Miami’s interest in acquiring Swift,

Sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Miami inquired about running back D’Andre Swift after the Detroit Lions selected Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round of last month’s NFL draft.

The depth of the inquiry is unknown. Holmes wound up trading Swift to the Eagles for a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a seventh-round pick in 2023 that became wide receiver Antoine Green. There were multiple reports at the time of the Lions getting calls from several teams on Swift, and we now know the Dolphins were one of them.
