Report: Daryl Morey, Sixers looking to add 3rd star to Joel Embiid, James Harden

The Philadelphia 76ers have some work to do in order to improve the roster surrounding Joel Embiid and James Harden. While that star duo can bring a lot of success to the Sixers, they need more help in order to get the job done in the playoffs.

President Daryl Morey has done some good things since he has gotten to the City of Brotherly Love. He helped put together a very good roster to be the No. 1 seed in the 2020-21 season and he then made the big deal to bring Harden to Philadelphia.

Now, he has to put more around Harden and Embiid to bring a championship to the franchise for the first time since 1983.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst hopped on #Greeny with Mike Greenberg and he reports that the Sixers are looking for a third star to join Embiid and Harden and he also dropped an interesting tidbit on coach Doc Rivers:

I think Harden will be back. It’ll just be a matter of negotiating the contract and making sure that if it makes sense for the Sixers to improve because I promise you that Daryl Morey has big giant plans to acquire another star. Whether he’s going to execute it, I don’t know. The part of getting that done is gonna require Harden to take some sort of pay cut and I think the Sixers would be comfortable with Doc Rivers returning, but I don’t think it’s as open and shut as Darryl wanted to present it 12 hours after they had this disheartening departure. He, I think, was taking a negotiating position with the Los Angeles Lakers coming out and saying, ‘Oh, yes, absolutely. 100% Doc is back’. That’s not a reasonable decision to come to after that. You need to evaluate things and discuss things before coming to that. So it would not surprise me at all if Harden is the point guard and Doc is the coach when they open the season next year, but I’m not ready to say that Doc for sure is going to be in that role

Immediately, the name that stands out is Washington Wizards star, Bradley Beal. That name makes a lot of sense after former NBA champion, Andrew Bogut, hinted that Beal wants to head to Philadelphia and form a Big 3 with the two stars.

Obviously, Morey wants to be sure that the Sixers are in the best position possible to chase a championship. In order to do that, he needs to upgrade the roster around Harden and Embiid and it will be interesting to see how he does that.
