The Cleveland Browns released five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry on Monday.

This move comes just two days after the Browns allowed Landry to seek a trade following Cleveland's blockbuster acquisition of Cowboys wideout Amari Cooper.

Landry, 29, played the past four seasons with the Browns after being traded from the Miami Dolphins to Cleveland in 2018. He's coming off arguably his worst season in the NFL after missing four games with a knee sprain and another due to COVID-19. Landry finished with just 52 receptions for 570 yards and two touchdowns, all career lows. He tallied 288 receptions for 3,560 yards and 15 touchdowns in 59 games for the Browns.

The move saves the Browns $15.1 million in salary cap money this season.

"The trade for Jarvis Landry in 2018 was a key moment for our organization," Browns GM Andrew Berry said Monday. "Jarvis' on-field production and fiery competitiveness speaks for itself, but his leadership and team-oriented attitude impacted our culture in a way that will last in time even beyond his release. These decisions are always difficult, but we wish Jarvis well and we look forward to the day when he returns as a storied Browns alumnus."

Moving on from Landry signals the end of what looked like a dynamic receiving duo in Cleveland with him and Odell Beckham Jr. The Browns waived Beckham Jr. midway through the 2021 season, less than three seasons after pairing him with his former LSU teammate in Landry. Now, neither of them play for a Cleveland team who will start Cooper in their place.

The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs are two teams to watch as possible landing spots for Landry, per Rapoport, and Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer expects the Browns to look at drafting a receiver with the No. 13 pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
