Report: Bulls signing ex-Illini Malcolm Hill to 10-day originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Chicago Bulls are seeing orange.

That's a lighthearted takeaway from Thursday's news, via ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, that the team is inking former University of Illinois standout Malcolm Hill to a 10-day contract.

Hill, who averaged 13.5 points in his four-year collegiate career, is a 26-year-old, 6-foot-6 guard with minimal NBA experience. He made his debut, in fact, by playing two minutes on Christmas Day 2021 for the Hawks, with whom he signed a 10-day hardship contract earlier this season.

In three games with Atlanta, Hill averaged 5.7 points. He logged 29 minutes in their Dec. 29 loss to the Bulls at the United Center, scoring 13 points and shooting 3-for-5 from 3-point range.

Hill is presumably signing with the Bulls via hardship as well, given that the team is without Alex Caruso (protocols), Javonte Green, Patrick Williams and now Derrick Jones Jr.

Green, the Bulls' regular starting power forward, had a two-to-four week timeline placed on his recovery from a groin injury on Jan. 3, while Caruso's return is dependent on his cycling numbers and eventual reconditioning process once he clears protocols. Jones Jr. is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a bone bruise in his right knee, per The Athletic's Shams Charania, and Williams' return is still out of sight.

In the meantime, Hill represents an insurance body with a home-road back-to-back against the Warriors (on Friday) and Celtics (on Saturday) looming this weekend. And he joins Ayo Dosunmu (with whom he shared no overlap in Champaign) as Illinois grads on the roster.
