Report: Boxer Gevonta Davis ordered to complete hit-and-run sentence in jail

Lightweight boxing star Gervonta Davis was abruptly taken into custody Thursday and ordered to serve the rest of his 90-day sentence stemming from a 2020 hit-and-run crash in jail, according to a published report.

The Baltimore Banner reports Judge Althea Handy ordered the boxer taken to jail after what his attorney called an "impromptu hearing" Thursday afternoon. Davis, 28, had been serving three months of home detention after pleading guilty last year to being involved in a crash in his hometown of Baltimore that injured four people, including a pregnant woman.

Online court records show no indication of a court hearing or evidence that Davis violated his parole.

Less than a month later, he was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest for his guilty plea in the hit-and-run case. He was serving his sentence at the Baltimore home of his coach Calvin Ford after Handy rejected a request to serve the term at his home in Florida.
