A second report surfaced on Wednesday which indicates that the Bills are looking into signing defensive end JJ Watt, but it also suggests they are very much not alone.

ESPN reported earlier in the day that Watt and the Bills have mutual interest, as the team was one of four that were said to be initially interested in him when he was released by the Texans last week. Those original four also included the Browns, Titans, and Steelers.

However, a new report via the Buffalo News gives us two things. First, the confirmation of mutual interest from both the Bills and Watt. In addition, there are now a “half-dozen teams” in on Watt… not just four. That means there is potentially more competition in landing the 31-year-old. No new teams were mentioned in the latest update, but the Packers are suggested as suitor because he is from Wisconsin.

In regard to some of the other teams that could be interested, per Cleveland.com, Watt was “seriously considering” joining the Browns as of Tuesday. The Steelers, for now, seem less likely because their general manager in Kevin Colbert said on Wednesday that the Watt-Steelers connection is “just speculation” for now. Watt’s two brothers, TJ and Derek, both currently play for the Steelers so they appeared to be the early frontrunner for his services.

Watt having multiple suitors comes as no surprise even with his age. A three-time Defensive Player for the Year, Watt was named the No. 7 edge defender in the NFL in 2020 by Pro Football Focus. Plenty left in the tank.

Stay tuned to Bills Wire for the latest updates involving Watt.
