Report: 76ers will sign Charles Bassey to three-year contract
Philadelphia 76ers rookie Charles Bassey will reportedly sign a three-year contract after a lengthy negotiation process with the team, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Bassey did not play with the Sixers in the Las Vegas Summer League because he had not agreed to terms with the team. The initial thought was Bassey would sign a two-way contract, but he and his representation were seeking a standard NBA deal.
The 53rd overall pick was looking for a three-year contract with the first two years fully guaranteed but the Sixers were only willing to guarantee the first year. According to the report, the contract will be guaranteed only in the first year with a partial guarantee in the second year.

Bassey was named a third-team All-American last season after averaging 17.6 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots. He was also named the Conference USA Player of the Year and was the first player in program history to earn All-American honors in 50 years.
The Sixers bought the 53rd pick from the New Orleans Pelicans for $2 million, so they certainly liked what they saw from him in college. The team had wanted to draft a frontcourt player and Bassey projects to be a good option.
Bassey will now have the opportunity to participate with the Sixers in training camp, which begins on Tuesday.
