Region XIV Hoops: Jaguars and Lady Jags lose close games

Jan. 24—(Men) Lee College 80, Jacksonville College 64: JACKSONVILLE — No. 11-ranked Lee College carved out an 80-64 victory over Jacksonville College Tuesday night at the Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse in Region XIV play. The Navigators, who led 41-32 at intermission, moved to 17-2, 8-1 with the victory while the Jaguars' slate now stands at 6-13, 1-8. JC recorded one of its best nights of the season at the charity stri[pe where the Jags canned 21-of-29 (72.4%) attempts. Anthony Riggans of Carthage led JC in scoring by dropping in 19 points. He also shagged seven rebounds. FredTravious Benjamin knocked down 12 points to go along with nine assists and three steals. At 4 p.m. Saturday the JC men will journey to Lufkin to test Angelina College.

(Women) Coastal Bend College 60, Jacksonville College 51:BEEVILLE — In a game that was played Monday in Beeville, Coastal Bend College nipped Jacksonville College, 60-51. The Lady Jaguars (2-13, 0-4) trailed 28-20 at the break. Sophomore Grace Okih of Nigeria scored 22 points and came down with 29 rebounds while Chidera Ezeilo also earned a double-double (19 points, 20 rebounds). Coastal Bend improved to 5-11, 1-2 with the win. At 2 p.m. Saturday the Lady Jags will host Kilgore College.
