Reds 3B Suarez undergoes shoulder surgery

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez underwent surgery to remove loose cartilage in his right shoulder, the team announced Tuesday.

Per the Reds, Suarez's physical activity will be limited at the beginning of spring training. He is expected to be ready to play near the start of the regular season.

Suarez sustained the injury recently in a swimming pool mishap.

The 28-year-old recorded a career-high 49 homers in 159 games last season. He also batted .271 with 103 RBIs.

Suarez owns a .265 batting average with 147 homers and 430 RBIs in 799 career games with the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers.
