WATCH: Brock Holt gets revenge on Red Sox with game-clinching hit originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

One of the more well-liked players in recent Red Sox history just became a little less popular in Boston.

The Red Sox held a late lead over the Rangers on Sunday in their series finale before Texas rallied to score three runs in the eighth inning en route to a 5-3 comeback win.

And guess who stuck the dagger in the Sox? Former Boston utility man Brock Holt.

Tomase: Red Sox' top-heavy offense isn't sustainable

With two outs and two runners on in the eighth inning of a 3-3 game, Holt laced a single to center field off reliever Matt Barnes that scored the two game-clinching runs.

That hurts -- especially since Holt entered hitting just .250 with four RBIs in 14 games played. Holt also went 2-for-3 with an RBI against the Red Sox on Friday night, so he clearly enjoys sticking it to the franchise where he spent seven seasons and earned his lone All-Star nod in 2015.

The loss was Boston's third in the last four games and drops the Sox to 17-12 on the season. Here are a few other highlights from Sunday's contest at Globe Life Field:

FINAL SCORE: Rangers 5, Red Sox 3
