Recruiting Roundup: Prospects stay busy as playoffs near
Oct. 23—The regular season is winding down in Mississippi high school football.
Classes 1A-4A wrap up their regular season this Thursday, while Classes 5A-7A conclude next Thursday.
Even so, many Northeast Mississippi recruits are finding time to be active on the recruiting trail.
Perkins offered by Clarke
Marquallen Perkins became the second Shannon Red Raider to receive an offer from Clarke University on Wednesday.
Perkins is a senior wide receiver and defensive back.
Petty travels to Champagne
Trey Petty took an unofficial visit to Illinois this past weekend for its game against Wisconsin. The senior quarterback from Starkville committed to the Illini on May 4.
Petty is currently leading the Starkville Yellow Jackets as they seek a second-straight state championship. So far this season, Petty's completed 100 of his 150 passes for 1,435 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Autry to the U.S. Army Bowl
Isaiah Autry was selected to participate in the U.S. Army Bowl. It's a high school All-American showcase held in Frisco, Texas, from Dec. 16-18.
Autry, a senior offensive tackle from Itawamba AHS, has been committed to Oklahoma since April 21. He's rated as the No. 15 player in the state of Mississippi by 247sports.
Echoles earns another SEC offer
Houston offensive lineman Willian Echoles received an offer from Alabama on Wednesday. It's his 19th offer from a Division I school.
Echoles, who was recently added to the Top247 by 247sports, is currently committed to Ole Miss.
Owens visits Tulane
Nettleton defensive lineman Nik Owens visited Tulane this past weekend for its game against North Texas.
The junior has 22 tackles and 5 sacks this year for the Tigers. He is currently awaiting offers from four-year schools.
Chalmers offered by Anna Maria
Michael Chalmers received his fourth offer from a four-year school on Thursday. This one came from Anna Maria College, a Division III school out of Paxton, Massachusetts.
Anna Maria joins Clarke University, Culver-Stockton and Birmingham-Southern as those to offer the Shannon senior defensive back.
McCoy and Williams selected to showcase
Tupelo sophomore JaReylan McCoy and Bruce junior Jay Cole Williams were both invited to the 2024 National Combine. It takes place at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Jan. 4-5.
