Giving someone a black eye on the first date likely diminishes the chances of a second one. However, that wasn't the case for Kings guard De'Aaron Fox and his wife, Recee Fox.

During the couple's recent interview on "Kings Central" with NBC Sports California's Kyle Draper, Recee recounted their first date, explaining how De'Aaron's competitive juices might have gotten the best of him that night.

"So that night after the planetarium and the steakhouse, he was like, 'Hey, let's go shoot,' " Recee told Draper. "I was like, 'Yes, please.' So I thought we were just going to shoot, and he was like, 'Let's play [one-on-one].' So I'm a workout person. I want to shoot. I want to get my reps up. He's a hooper. So I was like, 'OK.' So I had the ball first. De'Aaron is, like I said, a sore loser, competitor, whatever it is.

"He starts playing real professional defense. Like the one that you see him play against Davion [Mitchell] or whatever guard ... So I did what I was taught to do, and like you create space, and you swim over. Well, his face was right there and I clipped his eye."

De'Aaron quickly interjected and let Draper know that his wife has been the only person to give him a black eye. Recee continued by sharing her worries about not hearing from the Kings star after the incident.

"I was like, 'He's never going to call me again,' " Recee said. "But he called me, and we're married with a kid on the way."

While a black eye during a first date isn't ideal at the moment, it gives the Foxes a unique story about how their relationship started and how it continues to grow, especially as she remains a pillar of support for the 25-year-old.
