Recapping Day 3 of the 2023 SEC Baseball Tournament

Two more teams were sent home from the SEC tournament on Thursday and will await their regional fates. There is a possibility that both teams will be hosting, but we will see.

The aforementioned teams are South Carolina and Auburn. The Gamecocks faced off against Texas A&M in the first game of the day and the Aggies put on a clinic against them. Carolina was only able to get one hit in nine innings.

Auburn played in the Iron Bowl of baseball against Alabama for the first time in the tournament since 2010 and the Tigers were sent home as the Tide tallied seven runs on 14 hits to keep their tournament hopes alive.

In the winners’ bracket, Arkansas took down LSU and Florida took down Vanderbilt.

Game 1: No. 10 Texas A&M 5, No. 6 South Carolina 0

Texas A&M may only be the No. 10 seed in the tournament, but it is putting on a clinic on the mound. Two out of the three tournament games the Aggies have played have been wins where they only gave up one hit. They shut Tennessee down in the first round and they shut South Carolina down today. The Aggies are hot at the right time and they will fight for survival on Friday against LSU.

Game 2: No. 9 Alabama 7, No. 5 Auburn 4

Talk about two teams playing great baseball right now, look no further than Alabama and Auburn. For the first time since 2010, the teams played the Iron Bowl of baseball at the SEC tournament and the ‘Bama bats were hot. The Tide tallied seven runs on 14 hits to send the Tigers packing.

Game 3: No. 2 Arkansas 5, No. 3 LSU 4

This one had all the inklings of an instant classic before the game even started. The winner would get a day off tomorrow and the loser had to fight to survive against Texas A&M. Thanks to a five-run fourth inning, Arkansas came out on top against LSU.

Game 4: No. 1 Florida 6, No. 4 Vanderbilt 3

If the Gators wind up winning the SEC tournament, BT Riopelle should be named the tournament MVP. He hit the walk-off homer to beat Bama last night and he hit a grand slam tonight to put the Gators out of reach of Vandy in this one as Florida won 6-3.

Day 4 schedule

3 p.m. CT: No. 10 Texas A&M vs No. 3 LSU

30 minutes after Game 1: No. 9 Alabama vs No. 4 Vanderbilt

No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Arkansas get a day of rest before the Semis on Saturday.
