TikTok has a wild hack for making homemade doughnuts inside an air fryer

Can air fryer doughnuts really compete with the standard, tried-and-true doughnut formula?

For those of us who watch the Krispy Kreme conveyor belt like it’s a Planet Earth episode, it’s hard to believe there’s an easy way to make doughnuts at home.

But TikTokers @kortneyandkarlee are trying to change that. The duo posted their viral hack on TikTok, where it instantly took off.

Not only does the clip claim you can cook doughnuts in an air fryer, but it also says you can make them out of biscuit dough. It sounds too easy — and delicious — to be true.

That’s why In The Know producer Gina DeLise decided to grab her air fryer and test the hack herself. To see what happened, watch above or keep reading below.

How to make air fryer doughnuts

Here’s what you’ll need to make a standard, frosting-and-sprinkles doughnut:

  • One package of Pillsbury Grands! Flaky Layers biscuits

  • Powdered sugar

  • Milk

  • Sprinkles

Start by cutting a hole in the center of your biscuit rounds. Cook them in the air fryer at 350 degrees for three minutes, then flip and cook for another three minutes.

Meanwhile, make your icing by mixing powdered sugar and milk until you get a thick, sticky consistency. Add food coloring to style the doughnut as you choose.

Let your cooked doughnuts cool a bit, then pour over the icing before adding sprinkles. And that’s it!

These things are extremely easy to make, but, that said, they don’t stack up to regular doughnuts. The biscuit dough definitely tastes like a biscuit, and while the doughnuts are sweet, they’re clearly not a replacement for the original doughnut formula.
