RCTC women rack up 104 points in overwhelming victory

Jan. 10—ROCHESTER — Rochester Community and Technical College had six of its eight players score in double figures in an overwhelming 104-18 victory over Western Technical College in women's junior college basketball on Wednesday.

RCTC, the defending national champion, is ranked No. 1 in the nation among Division III NJCAA teams and is now 12-2 overall, 3-0 in the South Division of the MCAC. Western Tech, which had just six players for the game, drops to 1-12, 0-2 in division play.

Cassidy Shute had 22 points, six assists and eights steals for RCTC while Aniyah Reuben had 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Macaya Copeland had 18 points for the Yellowjackets. Kara Goetzinger had 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals while Jada James and Janae Bennett both had 12 points and nine rebounds.

RCTC led 29-2 after one quarter and 55-4 at the half.

The Yellowjackets will host Minnesota West Community and Technical College on Wednesday, Jan. 17 in a battle of national powers. Minnesota West is ranked No. 4 in Division III and the teams two met at the national tournament last season in Rochester.
