RCTC men win fourth straight with lopsided victory over Minnesota West

Jan. 17—ROCHESTER — The surging Rochester Community and Technical College men's basketball team used a dominating first half to roll past Minnesota West Community and Technical College 77-46 on Wednesday night.

The Yellowjackets, who have now won four straight games, bolted out to a 37-13 lead at the half to take control.

"It was an ugly game, but defensively we were good in the first half," RCTC coach Brian LaPlante said.

RCTC had 10 players score in the contest, and seven scored between seven and 14 points.

Zach Herrmann led the way with 14 points and he pulled down five rebounds. Daelen Whitfield scored 12 points off the bench while Aden Price had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Whitfield shot 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from the line. LaPlante said Whitfield chipped in with "some solid play."

Jamison Lien also had eight rebounds as RCTC controlled the boards 40-24. Laden Nerison had nine points, five rebounds and three assists.

Minnesota West (2-15, 0-5 South Division) has lost nine straight.

The Yellowjackets are now 9-8 overall and 4-1 in the South Division of the MCAC. They will host Minnesota State-Fergus Falls at 3 p.m. on Saturday in a key division contest.
