Springfield (IL) Sacred Heart Griffin senior running back recruit Tremayne Lee (5-foot-9, 160 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process on Sunday and gave in-state Southern Illinois University his verbal commitment. Lee discusses his decision here.
"It just feels great to be committed to SIU," Lee said. "I went down to SIU on Sunday for a visit with my family and I just fell in love with the school and so did my parents."
Lee, who ran for 2,168 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2016 discussed why he decided to pledge to SIU.
"It was really everything about SIU. They have a great looking campus and I was able to see a lot and learn a lot more about SIU on my visit today. SIU has a great coaching staff and I was able to talk to all of the coaches including head coach Nick Hill. SIU also offers a great education and they also offer a lot of academic support for the players and all the athletes at SIU. SIU also has amazing facilities. I was also able to sit and talk to some of the players at SIU and they filled me in on the school and the team."
Lee also felt wanted by the SIU staff and that also played a big factor in his final choice.
"SIU really recruited me the hardest out of any of the schools who recruited me. SIU always checked in and talked about how I was doing and how school was going. They just always made me feel like a top priority for them. Some of the schools who recruited me just seemed to not really work as hard as the SIU coaches worked. It was important to know that SIU had a plan for me and wanted me."
Lee is also excited that his family will be just a few hours away from home for college.
"It's great that SIU is so close to home. My parents and my family can come down and see all of my home games in college."
Tremayne Lee is verbally committed to SIU.
