Rays set for regular-season finale, trip to Cleveland

BOSTON — The Rays go into today’s regular-season finale looking to come out healthy as they head to Cleveland for their best-of-three Wild Card Series that opens Friday.

Lefty Josh Fleming was activated off the injured list to start today’s 4:10 p.m. game — assuming the forecasted rain continues to hold off — and several relievers who have been off for a few days, such as Jason Adam, Pete Fairbanks, Shawn Armstrong and JT Chargois, are likely to get some brief work.

Otherwise, the Rays, who have lost a season high-matching four straight, are most concerned with just getting through the game. The Red Sox are starting hard-throwing Nick Pivetta.

The Rays had a similar mentality on Tuesday, and lost lefty reliever Colin Poche, who strained his right oblique and is now done for the postseason. His placement on the injured list opened the spot for Fleming to be activated.

Game times for the Wild Card Series with the Guardians were set, with the team playing at 12:07 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4:07 p.m. Sunday if a third game is necessary. The Sunday game could be moved into an evening slot depending on how many of the other four series also are still going.
