The San Antonio Spurs basketball team has just launched a cycling apparel collection for its fans in collaboration with Rapha.

The collection features two styles of Rapha’s lightweight race kit: one with the Spurs team logo in the traditional silver and black color palette, and the other featuring a San Antonio logo and the “fiesta colors” of the team’s jersey design from the 90s.

Offering cycling apparel isn’t something you’d think a professional basketball team would do, the team’s senior marketing director Jordan Mandelkorn acknowledged to Bicycling, but the idea had actually been in the works for a few years. The team noticed that cycling had become a popular sport for veteran team athletes post-retirement, including Manu Ginóbili and Tim Duncan.

It’s also a way to “shine a light” on San Antonio’s and Austin’s vibrant cycling scenes, Mandelkorn said.

“Rapha was thrilled by the opportunity to work with the Spurs and offer a cycling kit to the team’s fans. This project gave us a special opportunity to forge a connection between local cycling initiatives and the broader San Antonio sporting community. We hope that the collaboration will have a positive impact by promoting the positive values that sport of any kind can bring to anyone’s life,” Rapha stated in a press release.

The collection launched on August 18, and Manderlkorn said it’s been positively received by fans so far. Along with the road cycling kits, there’s also a men’s and women’s technical T-shirt in with the Spurs logo, and matching socks, water bottles, and cycling caps in both styles.
